Yom Kippur is one of the highest holidays of Israel along with Rosh Hashana. It’s a solemn and holy day for all Jewish people. It’s a day all the stores close down, there are no cars on the roads, everything comes to a halt. Yom Kippur in Israel is an unusual, but interesting experience.

The holiday is celebrated in different areas of the city in different ways and this is what we aim to explore during our walkabout.

Who is this for

Anybody who likes to walk, explore and capture the scenes with their smartphone or camera. We will walk approx 7 km and have 2-3 breaks during which we can rest and take the time for long exposure shots or other photo experiments.

Who are we

This event is organized by Photo972.com in cooperation with Finjan Israel. Photo972 provides photography experiences and Finjan Israel is the best alternative travel company in Israel.

What do we plan

We will meet at Dizengoff center and kick off with a brief talk about photography tips.

We have planned a unique route through various and very different parts of the city. We will meet at Dizengoff Center, walk down on Kaplan street towards Ayalon. At Azrieli Center we descend to Ayalon South where we will have a longer break. We will continue our walk on Ayalon South highway until La Guarda junction where we enter the tunnel towards Allenby street. From here we will go through the New Bus Station and Newe Shaanan area and finish at Levinsky market.

The total length of the walk is approximately 7.2 km.

What should you bring

Fasting and non-fasting participants are both welcome. We respect both sides and we expect you to do the same. It is recommended to bring:

  • Plenty of water

  • Snacks/sandwiches - just keep in mind to respect those who fast (i.e. do not eat your sandwich in front of a synagogue or in front of clearly religious people)

  • Your camera + extra battery/powerbank

  • Light weight tripod if you have

What should you wear

  • Comfortable walking shoes. You need to be able to walk for 3 hours

  • Wear a bright top so that you will be clearly visible to bikers or occasional car drivers on the road.

Disclaimers

  • You can leave the walk at any time you feel.

  • You are responsible for your own health and transportation.

  • YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. There will be a lot of children on bikes who have no idea about traffic rules. There may be also some cars (mainly ambulances and police cars) so you need to be always alert and make sure to keep safe.

What about the photos I take

We invite you to send us your top 5 photos. We will create an album from all the photos taken during the evening and share it on Photo972.com's and Finjan’s Facebook pages.
